HoRNet has released Planer, a versatile and high-quality audio clipper plugin that you can get for free until May 14 (23:59 Italian time) with the code PLAN10048.
I’ve got to say—I’m glad I finally had the time to share a HoRNet freebie on time. They usually run 48-hour flash deals, and I’ve missed several of them, so it feels good to post one before it’s over!
If you read this before May 14, you can get Planer for free by using the code PLAN10048 at checkout on HoRNet’s website.
Planer is a clipper effect with a twist. The unique feature is its customizable transfer function, which lets you make smooth transitions between soft and hard clipping. This works great for subtle saturation or aggressive limiting, as you can use the transfer function to adapt the clipping to your needs.
Another cool feature is Planer’s ultra-high oversampling mode. You can push oversampling from 16x to 256x, which drastically reduces aliasing and ensures clean audio even under extreme processing.
I also liked the user interface. It’s spacious and easy to navigate. The color scheme is subtly retro-inspired, with a prominent pink transfer curve that, for some reason, reminds me of old video games.
I found Planer very easy to use. The essential parameters—input level, ceiling, knee shape, oversampling, and output—are all easily located on the interface and operate as expected.
You can also solo the clipping effect using the Delta function, link input and output levels, and tweak knee shapes for a more musical response. The clipper meter and input/output meters give you solid visual feedback, and a bypass toggle helps you quickly A/B the processing.
While Planer doesn’t support mid-side processing, it does include a range of handy features like preset management, dark/light modes, and vector-based GUI scaling for retina displays. It’s also fully compatible with Apple Silicon.
The latest version (1.0.2) includes several bug fixes, including UI scaling issues on Windows and crashes in FL Studio. VST 2.4 support has been removed, but the plugin still covers most bases with support for AU, VST3, and AAX formats.
Planer is available in 64-bit for Windows (10 and later) and macOS (10.13 and later).
