Safari Pedals has released Falcon Air EQ, a sleek high-end enhancer and de-esser plugin for Windows and macOS, currently available for an introductory price of $49 (regularly $79).
Falcon Air EQ focuses on taming harshness while lifting your mix with top-end sparkle. It can help you achieve that polished vocal sheen, brighten up a dark drum bus, or simply add clarity to a full mix.
I love how it handles top-end boost, and it’s much more than just a treble boost plugin. Falcon Air EQ gives you control over several parameters to help musically sculpt the high-end.
You get a dedicated Air Gain knob to lift or cut the selected frequency, a Frequency selector to zero in on where you want that shine, and an Air Drive control that adds saturation to help the top end feel more alive.
The built-in de-esser is also excellent. It’s effective and musical, keeping things smooth without dulling the energy. It’s pretty cool if you want to move sibilance as transparently as possible.
What I loved the most was how easy Falcon Air EQ is to dial in. The interface is super straightforward, with a real-time frequency display that helps you see exactly what’s happening.
There’s also oversampling, blend control for parallel processing, and an Auto Gain feature that makes sure your levels stay balanced as you tweak.
I threw Falcon Air EQ on a few test tracks, including a cinematic project I’m working on and a fully-produced lo-fi beat. In both cases, it brought the air and clarity I wanted without introducing harshness or hiss.
On the master bus, I used the Blend knob at around 60% for a gentle lift, and it made the whole mix feel more open. The Air Drive added just enough edge to cut through, and the de-esser helped keep things under control.
It’s also a nice bonus that the saturation affects a different frequency range than the Air Gain, which opens up some fun tone-shaping options.
Falcon Air EQ is a flexible, great-sounding tool for producers who want quick and musical control over the high end. It works well on vocals, instruments, busses, or even the master, and I can see it becoming a regular part of my cinematic sound design workflow.
