2B Played Music is once again giving away one of its popular one-knob plugins. This time, QFX Wax is free until October 24, 2025, using the coupon code WAX25.
If you’ve been following BPB for a while, you probably already have a handful of 2B Played freebies in your plugin folder. The developer regularly runs limited-time giveaways on its website, and QFX Wax was last offered for free back in June 2024.
We’ve also seen other QFX-series plugins go free, like QFX Echo and QFX Color, as well as some of their other plugins like 2B Reverbed, so this is a nice chance to fill any gaps in your 2B Played collection.
QFX Wax is part of the Quick Effect (QFX One) series. It’s a lineup of simple, single-knob processors similar to the Waves OneKnob series.
Obviously, they’re designed to help you shape your sound fast without getting lost in menus or parameter tweaking. I’ve frequently mentioned how much I like using one-knob plugins (if they sound good) to speed up my production workflow, and this one is no exception.
Wax focuses on adding “fatness” and perceived loudness to your signal. It behaves like a streamlined compressor where the algorithm does most of the work for you. The user just needs to turn the big central knob to add pressure and thickness.
The plugin’s interface is typical of the QFX range. It’s clean and minimalist, with a large rotary control in the center, a simple level meter on the side, and a few presets to get started. But really, you won’t need them.
The charm of one-knob plugins is that they do precisely one thing, and the ones from 2B Played do their thing well. To be clear, none of these are must-have or groundbreaking tools, but I keep them installed in my DAW because they’re so quick and easy to use, and I often use them for quick tweaks.
In use, QFX Wax can make your sounds instantly louder and fuller with a single knob movement. It’s not going to replace a full compressor or mastering chain, but it’s perfect when you just need quick results.
