Venus Theory releases auras:altis, a FREE cinematic synth library for Decent Sampler

Venus Theory has released auras:altis, a free cinematic synth library for Decent Sampler.

There’s a lot to like about Altis before you even hear it: the collaboration between Venus Theory and Jason Graves is rooted in the sound of the Novation Summit, a highly expressive and, in my opinion, underrated synth.

Additionally, I don’t think I’m overselling anything to say that if you like emotive, expressive, cinematic sounds, you should download everything from Venus Theory’s Auras project.

If you’re not yet familiar with Auras, I suggest going through previous releases like Volts, Veils, and Polyscape; they are epic.

If the sound quality and expert sound design in crafting presets weren’t enough already, Auras’ libraries are free and run in the free Decent Sampler.

At the foundation of Altis are 25 multi-sampled sound sources that encapsulate the qualities required of cinematic sound: immersive, emotive, atmospheric, and textured.

The Novation Summit is often described as two Novation Peak synths with a keyboard. Although there’s truth in that, the Summit is much more than the sum of its parts, and one of its standout features is the ability to split, layer, and blend two independent patches.

We’ve seen Venus Theory use the A/B layer system in previous releases, inspired by the Arturia PolyBrute 12, with great success, and that same blending system is what makes Altis special.

You can blend any two of the 25 multi-sampled sources to create unique textures and soundscapes.

Altis utilizes the standard Auras interface featuring an Amp section with envelope and source selection knobs, a Filter with envelope, frequency, and resonance controls, and a built-in FX section (delay and reverb).

There’s also a Volume section with Dynamics and Expression sliders that allow you to guide your sound as you perform.

Whether you’re making chill-out music, ambient tracks, or the next Vangelis-inspired masterpiece, it’s always tempting to go down the dystopian path with sounds like Altis.

One of my favorite elements of this release is that you can enhance any mood-altering harmonic changes by combining them with a layer morph. Subtle textural changes work wonders when harmonically shifting from light to dark or vice versa.
