Scapegoat Audio has just launched its Goat DS-2 Turbo Distortion Tonex pack and made it available for free download.
The pack is compatible with IK Multimedia’s Tonex pedal and Tonex software.
The Tonex software is a 64-bit only release for macOS (AU, VST3, AAX) and Windows (VST3, AAX).
Tonex ($50, down from $200) is a paid product, but there is also a free Tonex CS edition.
Scapegoat Audio doesn’t specify if the Goat DS-2 works with the free version of Tonex.
This Tonex pack is, of course, based on Boss’s DS-2 Turbo Distortion stomp.
Boss debuted the pedal in 1987. It has been used by some big names, including Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante, and Prince.
The Goat DS-2 appears to be an exact copy of the original DS-2’s control scheme.
It features two modes, with Mode I being perfect for some old-school bluesy crunch, while the mid-boosted Mode II is right at home for screaming leads.
If you’d like to snap up Goat DS-2, click “Add to Cart” on the product page. You’ll then need to provide an email address and name.
You’ll then be able to add it to your cart, and then you’ll need to go to the cart and fill out the same info again for some reason (as well as a physical address).
After that, you’ll be forwarded to a download link, where you’ll be able to download the zip for the Goat DS-2.
There are 50+ tone models included in the release. It seems you’ll have to download the pack to find out what they are, though.
This is because the only audio I could find of the Goat DS-2 is a short demo of the pack on the product page, which only showcases a single riff played with one setting.
Goat DS-2 is currently available for free, but the Scapegoat Audio site has it marked down from $10 and lists it as being on sale.
So if you like the look of it, I’d say it’d be smart to snap up the release now in case it transitions to a paid product later.
It appears that the Goat DS-2 is the debut release from the Atlanta, Georgia-based developer.
There will be more to come, as the dev teases the release of a Mesa Electra Dyne Tonex pack and a Sears Silvertone 1448 IR pack when you go to download Goat DS-2.
