3XOver combines a DJ-style three-band EQ with a flexible crossover. The signal is split into low-, mid-, and high-band signals using low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass filters. You can set the crossover points between low/mid and mid/high, effectively defining where each band begins and ends.
Each band features its own gain control, so that you can boost or attenuate specific frequency ranges. You can also choose between 24 dB/octave and 48 dB/octave filter slopes, depending on how sharp you want the separation between bands to be.
Steeper slopes result in a more pronounced split, and these can be useful for creative processing or more surgical isolation.
There’s an ON/OFF switch for every band, making it easy to completely remove lows, mids, or highs. That makes 3XOver pretty handy for quick DJ-style frequency cuts, but it also opens up more experimental sound design options.
One of the more interesting features for me is the multi-output routing. Each band can be assigned to its own stereo output, in addition to the main output.
So, in supported DAWs, this means you can route the low, mid, and high bands to separate tracks and process them independently. For example, you could apply compression only to the low band, distortion to the mids, and leave the highs clean.
This setup also allows you to build your own multiband processing chains using your existing plugins. Keep in mind that not all DAWs support multi-output plugins, so functionality may vary depending on your host.
Other features include a global dry/wet control and a compact interface designed for quick adjustments.
HoRNet 3XOver is available in 64-bit AU, VST2.4, and VST3 formats for macOS (10.7 or later) and Windows. Apple Silicon is not currently supported.
