Audio Plugin Deals is offering the Guitar Series Direct SG by Sound Props for free for a limited time.
This Kontakt-powered guitar library normally costs $115, so it is worth a look if you need a playable electric guitar instrument and already own the full version of Kontakt.
Guitar Series Direct SG is based on a double-cutaway electric guitar with two humbuckers and a 3-way pickup selector.
What I liked is that the idea here is not a heavily processed guitar tone. Instead, Sound Props recorded it as a direct signal, so you get a cleaner starting point that you can run through your own amp sims, pedals, and effects.
That makes sense if you like shaping the final sound yourself rather than working around someone else’s baked-in chain.
The library includes up to six velocity layers and chromatically sampled notes, so there is a decent amount of dynamic detail in the performance.
I also like that it goes beyond basic sustains with a long articulation list that includes legato, palm mutes, slides, harmonics, pinch harmonics, tapping, tremolo bar effects, release noises, fret buzz, and pick attacks. There is also a built-in 12-string mode for richer layered parts.
One pretty cool feature is the FX-morph system, which blends regular articulations with harmonic sustains and feedback notes.
Sound Props explains this as a way to recreate some of the tone changes and feedback behavior you would normally get from a guitarist changing pick position or moving closer to an amplifier.
The interface also includes customizable articulation mapping, chord and strumming functions, arpeggio keys, and more than 100 Kontakt snapshots.
The library is pretty useful if you work on rock, blues, scoring, or any production where a dry electric guitar source is preferable to a pre-cooked amp tone. The included tone and volume controls, pickup switching, and extra mechanical noises should also help make MIDI parts feel less stiff.
Guitar Series Direct SG runs in Kontakt Full Version 6.7.1 or higher and is compatible with macOS and Windows.
