Orra Audio has released Orra Pump, a free (pay-what-you-can) tempo-synced modulation filter for macOS and Windows.
David from Orra Audio reached out to let me know about the new release, and I was very happy to see another freebie from their team. We covered Orra Audio’s Tone Zone in April, and that one got a great response from BPB readers.
Orra Pump is pretty cool if you like modulated filters. It lets you draw a modulation shape, lock it to the beat if you want, and send it to a filter, volume, or pan target.
Instead of choosing from a fixed set of LFO waveforms, you click to add points on a large curve editor, drag them into place, and bend each segment with a mid-handle. So, what you get is a looping modulation curve that moves from left to right across one cycle.

The curve can target a resonant low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, or notch filter. It can also control volume for tremolo and rhythmic gating, or pan for auto-panning effects.
The Channel selector is an awesome addition that I haven’t seen in similar filters. You can aim the effect at the full stereo signal, just the mid channel, or just the side channel, so it can do straightforward filter pumping or more subtle stereo movement.
Timing can work in a few different ways. Orra Pump can run freely at a Hz rate, sync to the host tempo at note divisions from 4 bars to 1/32, or trigger from the track itself or the DAW sidechain bus.
There are three trigger modes. Loop runs continuously, One-Shot plays the curve once per trigger hit, and Loop (Trig) restarts the loop whenever a trigger arrives. That makes it useful for classic rhythmic filter sweeps, sidechain-style movement, tremolo, gated patterns, and those obvious dubsteppy wobble effects.
The editor also includes a drawable swing grid with snapping, plus live overlays for the playheads, smoothed modulation trace, output ghost, and trigger meter. In other words, you can both draw the rhythm and see what the plugin is doing while it runs.
Orra Pump has zero latency, so it is safe to track and monitor through in real time. It is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS 10.13 or later (Universal 2 for Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10 or later (64-bit, VST3 and AAX).
