Developer Venn Audio has updated Free Suite, its free essential mixing suite to version 1.5, adding four new plugins.
You might remember we covered Venn Audio’s Free Suite a few years ago – a collection of nine essential plugins to help you reach professional standards without reaching into your pockets.
The collection went down well with readers who appreciated Venn Audio’s no-fuss approach and unintrusive download process.
So, it’s very welcome news that the developer has updated the entire collection and added four brand-new plugins.
Linux users who haven’t revisited this plugin suite since our original post will recall that Linux support was in the works.
Now, the collection is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Although there are four new plugins, some older plugins have been upgraded/replaced, and the suite now offers eleven mixing tools in total.
Plugins carried over from the original release are:
- Free Meter
- Free Convolve
- Free Clip 2
- Free Delay
- Free Gain
- Free Comp
- Free EQ
The new plugins are:
- Free Strip – An all-in-one channel strip plugin.
- Free Gate – An all-purpose noise gate.
- Free Reverb – An FDN-style reverb.
- Free Generator – A simple sampler with noise generation replacing the previous Free Tone plugin.
It’s important to note that the new plugins are not the only upgrade included in Free Suite 1.5.
Venn Audio has rewritten the back end across the entire collection to improve performance and stability.
The developer has also taken the time to listen to user feedback and implement some requested changes.
One of the most notable updates is the addition of slope selection for high-pass and low-pass filters in Free EQ, a feature many users requested.
Additional improvements include a clearer view of gain reduction and enhanced resampling from Free Convolve.
One thing that you’ll be glad to hear hasn’t changed is the straightforward download process.
