Drift Ritual is a new synth plugin from Manu Riga, and you can download it for free now.
The plugin is available in AU and VST formats for macOS and Windows.
The developer calls this plugin an organic drift synthesizer, and that about sums up the core character of Drift Ritual.
It’s about sounds that feel rich and alive, like you’d expect from a vintage analog synth, and that starts with two PolyBLEP oscillators and a multi-wave sub oscillator.
The PolyBLEP oscillators aim to recreate the fatness of synths that defined the sound of cinema for a while, like the Roland Jupiter-8 or Oberheim OB-X8.
Although not as distinct as something like the OB-X8, the PolyBLEP oscillators do a good job maintaining a rich/lush analog-like sound without becoming too soft or introducing digital harshness.
The focus on an authentic analog character continues with a multi-mode filter with body and analog-style lag.
You can also create vowel-like effects with Vowel Amount and Vowel Morph controls in the filter section.
Beside the filter section are two ADSR envelopes.
Drift Ritual finds a sensible balance between immediately useable sounds and deeper sound design options.
The immediacy comes from a large collection of factory presets and a straightforward interface.
The interface has multiple pages, including a dedicated Modulation page where you can go beyond the subtle organic drift with two multi-mode LFOs, Motion settings, and a built-in arpeggiator with Chord Mode.
Additionally, you have more expressive ways to control modulation and how your sound evolves through velocity and aftertouch with full MPE support.
The thing that I like about Drift Ritual, so far, is that it’s really clear about its intentions. If you want warm, drifting, textural pads and cinematic atmospheres, it’s got them all day long.
But it’s also got enough to be a bit more experimental with motion and texture through features like Unison Detune and built-in FX, including Bloom (harmonic delay), Space Center (reverb), and Erode (bitcrusher).
It does what it does without overwhelming you with options, so it’s a very handy synth for producers and composers who want instant inspiration with a decent degree of flexibility.
Although free, the developer welcomes any donations if you want to show your appreciation. One thing I think everyone will appreciate is that Manu Riga created Drift Ritual through many, many hours of coding, with no AI in sight.
