Okina Audio has released Takumi EQ, a free equalizer plugin with a Pultec-style section and optional multiband saturation.
The product page is originally in Japanese and defaults to that language, but you can easily switch to English using the language selector in the upper-right corner.
In short, Takumi EQ is a dynamic EQ, a Pultec-style EQ, and a multiband saturator in a single plugin.
According to developer Issey Kakuuchi, Takumi EQ includes a 24-band equalizer, and each band can function as a dynamic EQ if you want. Each band can also be set to stereo, mid, or side, so there is a solid amount of precision here for a free plugin.
There are four phase modes. The regular options are zero latency, natural, and linear phase, while the fourth option is the dedicated Takumi mode for mastering.
Takumi mode is the main workflow. It runs separate engines for cuts and boosts simultaneously, with the goal of keeping cuts surgical and boosts more musical. The developer says cuts are designed to remove the target frequency without dulling nearby transients, while boosts should stay clear instead of getting muddy.
The Pultec-style section is there for broader tone shaping. It models the classic low-end trick of boosting and attenuating at the same time, so you can handle wide tonal moves with the Pultec section and then use the regular EQ bands for finer correction.
The saturation section is also more flexible than a simple one-knob add-on. It works across five bands and offers six textures, three depth settings, a Dry/Wet control, and three oversampling settings.
Having all of this combined in a single tool makes Takumi EQ interesting if you want one free plugin for corrective EQ, dynamic EQ, broad analog-style tone shaping, and multiband harmonic color. The design is also nice and clean, so bonus points for that.
To get the plugin, you need to sign up on the Okina Audio website.
Takumi EQ is available in VST3 and AU formats on macOS, and VST3 on Windows x64. It supports macOS 10.13 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, plus 64-bit Windows systems.
