New developer Vitric Audio has released Bevel EQ, a free 24-band dynamic equalizer for macOS and Windows.
Vitric Audio is a new Cleveland-based developer that launched its store on August 28th. Bevel EQ and the four-knob Stoke Saturator are free during the launch sale, with no end date listed.
We already have so many high-quality free equalizers that I recently argued you probably don’t need to buy another EQ plugin. We have since featured the similarly ambitious Jeesonic EQ Pro, and Bevel EQ is another option.
The interface lets you add bands and freely adjust their settings. Double-click to create a band, then drag its node or type exact values into the floating control bar. Each slot can work as a bell, shelf, notch, high-pass, or low-pass filter, with cut slopes from 12 to 96 dB per octave.
Bell and shelf bands can be dynamic, with individual threshold, signed range, attack, and release settings.
The cool thing about dynamic EQs in general is that each detector listens to the frequency range around its own band rather than the entire signal. So, for example, a dynamic band at 6 kHz can remove sibilance without being triggered by unrelated low-frequency energy.
Every band can also process Stereo, Left, Right, Mid, or Side information independently. That makes it possible to do things like lifting only the high-frequency bands or cutting low-mid buildup from the center without setting up multiple EQ instances.
The analyzer displays pre- and post-processing spectra so you can see how the EQ affects the signal. It offers adjustable resolution, tilt, speed, and range, plus freeze, peak hold, and per-band solo.
The plugin also features proportional Q, auto-gain, A/B snapshots, undo and redo, nine presets, and a 20 to 500 Hz mono-maker. Bevel EQ is zero-latency by default, while optional 2x and 4x oversampling report their latency to the host.
I also asked the developer whether or not AI was used to develop Bevel EQ. Like several developers I’ve spoken to recently, he knows how to code by hand, but uses AI coding tools to work faster. Releases still go through studio listening, real DAW testing, automated measurements, and pluginval validation.
Bevel EQ normally costs $30, but it is currently free. The $0 checkout delivers a full license by email with no account required, no feature restrictions, and three lifetime machine activations.
Bevel EQ v1.1.5 is available in VST3 and AAX formats for 64-bit Windows 10 or newer. The macOS version includes VST3, AU, and AAX formats with native Intel and Apple Silicon support.
