HSM Audio has released Compakt, a simple freeware bitcrusher effect in VST plugin format for Windows (made with SynthEdit).

This is a simple and straightforward bitcrusher effect. It features three knobs – one for controlling bit-depth reduction, one for controlling sample reduction, and one for mixing the dry and wet signal.
Having the dry/wet control at hand is a handy feature, since it allows the user to make the bitcrushing effect more transparent. This way it is possible to use at a subtle effect, suitable for adding harmonic content to your audio signal.
Even though I like the simplicity of the plugin, I would like to see some GUI improvements. It would be great if the interface would show numeric values under each of the three knobs, so that it’s possible to apply a specific bit depth or sample rate setting.
