Bitsonic has announced the release of Violent Transient, a freeware transient shaper effect in 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows based host applications.
Violent Transient is a basic transient shaper effect with a simple control scheme which is optimized for quick and easy shaping of the audio signal on the input. The user interface features six control parameters in total. There are four knobs which are used to control the behavior of the transient shaping circuit (attack, release, threshold and ratio), along with a bypass switch and a simple brickwall limiter switch to prevent clipping.

The interface also features a handy metering panel which can be used to monitor the level of the audio signal on the input. This way, it is easier to enter the correct setting for the threshold parameter (although it’s always best to use the visuals only as a rough guide and make the final tweaks by ear).

One thing I really didn’t like is the fact that the plugin is distributed in an installer, instead of an archive or a simple DLL file. It’s no big deal really, but I prefer not having to run any installers on my main DAW, mostly for security reasons. As a tip for anyone with similar concerns, you can run new programs and installers in a sandbox environment (available in free antivirus programs such as Comodo and Avast), just to make sure that the program and the installer are completely safe to use.
