Felt Instruments have released Wolno, a freely downloadable cassette tape piano sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt (full version required).
Wolno is the free version of Lekko (£39), a premium sample library featuring the sounds of an upright piano which was recorded using vintage analog studio equipment. The freely downloadable pack features a single instrument patch for NI Kontakt. This particular preset is based on a set of samples which were recorded to tape and played back at half-speed, resulting in a wobbly and slow-motion-like vibe.

The sampled piano sounds dusty, soft, and unstable in all the right ways. If you’re working on a melancholic song or any other type of project that could benefit from a soft-sounding piano, you should give Wolno a try. To further tweak the piano’s sound character, the user can adjust the attack and release times, modify the sample start time, or apply the built-in delay and reverb effects. The volume of the key release samples can also be freely adjusted.
The only downside is the download process which is a bit complicated, but certainly worth the effort. To download your free copy of Wolno, complete the checkout process on the product page linked below and verify your email address. The confirmation email will contain your personal serial key which should be entered in the Pulse app to start the download. The Pulse app is also a free download, but some users probably won’t like the idea of installing additional software on their computer. Keep in mind that the full version of NI Kontakt is required to use Wolno without the 15-minute demo limit.
