Audiomodern has introduced Filterstep, a freeware filter effect in VST and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. The software is also available as a standalone application for desktop computers and a portable app for iOS devices.
Filterstep is a creative multi-mode filter effect with a built-in step sequencer. The plugin is optimized for creating complex, ever-evolving effects with intricate rhythmic movement patterns. It is the perfect sound design tool for modulating static sounds and for transforming boring pads and drones into rhythmic soundscapes.
The plugin features a modern-looking user interface that is centered around a step sequencer. The sequencer will run in sync with the host application’s tempo, with adjustable quantization and step length. The user can easily randomize all of the parameters to instantly create new rhythmic patterns. The patterns can be stored as presets in one of the sixteen slots for quick access during a live performance.
Audiomodern could hardly have picked a better time for this freeware release. During the Coronavirus epidemic, we are all encouraged to self-isolate and spend more time at home. Inspiring music software like Filterstep can help us stay creative and remain optimistic during these hard times.
Many other audio companies are offering their products for free right now, too. Check out the free music production tools provided by Moog, Positive Grid, HoRNet Plugins, and Cockos. Find all the freebies in one place by visiting our #StayAtHome article.
The desktop version of Filterstep can be downloaded for free from Audiomodern’s website. A valid email address is required to create a user account and complete the free checkout process. Both 32-bit and 64-bit host applications are supported on the desktop. The portable version of Filterstep can be downloaded from the App Store.
