Universal Audio is currently running a promotion on its site. You can get their Pultec Passive EQ Collection for free with any purchase.
We’ve seen other plugin retailers, like Plugin Boutique, do this kind of promotion before, but this time, it’s from UAD itself.
This time, there doesn’t seem to be any restriction on what purchase qualifies you to get this plugin.
You can find fantastic deals on UAD’s website starting from $29.99. Anything from compressors, EQs, and reverbs to guitar amps and even synths will let you take advantage of the current promotion.
The Pultec Passive EQ Collection lets you create “silky‑smooth sounds with a collection of “must‑have” EQs.”
You will have heard the legendary sound of Pultec vintage tube EQs on music by John Mayer, Daft Punk, and Mariah Carey, just to name a few.
It is perfect for guitars, drums, vocals, or anything, really. It also works great on a full mix. And UAD’s emulation certainly has that “analog magic.”
It contains 3 different plugins. The EQP-1A is designed for creating a focused low end, with ease. It works very well on bass guitar, synth bass, and kick drums among others.
I personally tried it for voiceover not too long ago, and it works great even for that purpose. It adds a nice and warm character to the voice without much tweaking.
You can boost and attenuate a frequency band at the same time. On paper, that might sound silly, but this plugin (like its hardware counterpart) tends to add a pleasing color and thump to the track.
MEQ-5 is for midrange control. It is perfect for vocals, guitars, and keys. It features “two bands of mid boost and a single band of midrange dip” and, of course, a vintage analog character.
Finally, the HLF-3C gives you analogue low and hi-pass filters to clean up your tracks or to dial in a retro, lo-fi sound.
If anything, it would be nicer to also have the 3 Pultec EQs in one plugin rather than in 3 different ones. But either way, they do sound fantastic.
The Pultec Passive EQ Collection is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS machines. No UA hardware is needed.
