When Valhalla DSP released Supermassive, it quickly became a favorite of aspiring producers and professionals.
It’s important to note the plugin’s appeal to music makers of all levels because Valhalla’s Supermassive isn’t one of those releases that’s pretty good for a freebie. It’s great regardless of price (although it’s awesome that it’s free).
And of course, it’s featured on our list of free reverb plugins.

One of the qualities that makes Supermassive so great is its distinct character.
Depending on how you use the plugin, that distinct character may vary, but it’s not a plugin that goes unnoticed.
Whether you’re creating ambient synth pads, lush lead guitar tones, or adding a delay that makes almost anything sound epic, Supermassive is the standard for many people.
If epic is your goal, remember to check out Flame Sound’s free Cinematic Risers Sample Pack.
The much-loved Supermassive reverb/delay plugin is now in version 4.0.0, and with the recent update comes a new Pleiades mode.
Supermassive is a very fitting name for the plugin because it brings an immense sense of space, like chucking your sound into the void of space and just about getting it back.
Wild as that sounds, Supermassive has it all under control and works well. Recent updates have introduced more musical algorithms and presets, at least traditionally speaking, and that’s what Pleiades offers.
Pleiades brings a level of transparency and natural decay that wasn’t previously available from Supermassive.
You can rely on Pleiades to create realistic small room reverb with short delays and low feedback.
If you increase the feedback, you can create a lush, almost ethereal reverb that remains free of coloration.
Pleiades is more tame than most Supermassive algorithms, but it still very much belongs in that group.
With that in mind, Pleiades doesn’t stop at realist small rooms; the included presets venture into massive modulated reverbs, huge grainy reverbs, metallic flangers, chorused echoes, and more.
Supermassive remains one of the best free reverb/delay plugins available and manages to get a little better with each update.
Pleiades brings a little realism but doesn’t take much convincing to venture into more typical Supermassive territory.
