In the second half of 2024, Rigid Audio began moving former flagship products into the freeware category, continuing with their release of the free Kontakt instrument Ion Storm.
This news was particularly pleasing for media composers as it included the Interference drum and loop sequencer, Cinematrix, and Synferno (all for Kontakt Full).
These libraries are outstanding for composing cinematic music, as is Rigid Audio’s latest freebie, Ion Storm.
Of course, it’s not all happy news; these freebies mark the final countdown for Rigid Audio as the developer closes its virtual doors for the very last time on January 1st, 2025.
What better way to thank loyal customers than one last freebie and a massive 97% discount on the Everything Bundle for just $25 (usually $1630)?
Ion Storm is a cinematic transition designer for Kontakt Full 6.4.2 or higher.
With any music, the devil is in the details, and if you don’t show the same attention to every element, no matter how seemingly insignificant, you’ll likely fall far short of expectations.
This maxim may be even more impactful in cinematic music when pairing music and video.
With that in mind, transitions play a pivotal role in the success of any cinematic project because they often dictate the impact of a sound, theme, or movement.
Whether it’s a rise or fall with a dramatic and obvious end or a subtle transition marking a potential change in scene or sound, it has to be perfect, and Ion Storm can help you do that.
Ion Storm has five distinct sound engines: wavetable, sample-based, granular, noise, and percussion. You can blend or layer these engines to create unique transitions for any sub-genre.
Those familiar with Rigid Audio’s Kontakt instruments won’t be surprised to see Ion Storm featuring an intuitive interface, ample modulation and sequencing capabilities, and an impressive preset bank with 256 genre-specific presets. The factory presets are ready to go or serve as. excellent templates.
It’s also a good idea to map certain parameters to your mod wheel or joystick for more tactile transition shaping.
Baby Audio’s Transit 2 is another outstanding transition toolkit, and you can download the Warp module for free.
I’ll end by saying a huge thank you to Rigid Audio for ten years of products that inspire and help musicians bring ideas to life; best wishes for future endeavors.
Thank you, Rigid Audio.

onI like Kontakt libraries that don’t break the harddrive, and of the 400 MB download a 100 MB instruction video is included which can be deleted, so it doesn’t need more than 200-300 MB of precious harddrive space to work :-)
