If you like your synths with a dose of Zen, you’re in luck. NuSofting just released the Psicogramma Key freeware synth, which is made to deliver meditative and contemplative sounds.
The plugin is a 64-bit-only release for macOS (VST3, AU) and Windows (VST2, VST3).
Psicogramma Key is an eight-voice synth that fully integrates all the features of the Psicogramma MFX multi-effect plugin.
NuSofting’s latest freeware instrument is a waveshaping and FM single oscillator synth with a noise generator, analog-style ADSR envelope for amplitude and timbre control, vibrato, and reverb.
The features of Psicogramma MFX are also included, namely an octaver, reverse delay with AM and FM modulations, flanger, and tilt EQ with swappable low pass and high pass filters.
NuSofting ships the synth with 51 presets and an advanced preset manager that includes batch edit functions.
The dev produced a 16-minute demo to showcase some of the plugin’s presets. The demo is embedded on the product page in a SoundCloud player.
There are also several user demos available on YouTube, which are handy for getting an idea of how the controls interact with the output.
To my ears, the presets’ common theme is a dreamy, retro-tinged sound. A few of them recall Vangelis’s work.
While Psicogramma Key is built to produce meditative sounds, it’s not limited to that. I could see the featured sounds being useful in a range of styles, such as ambient, synthwave, prog, jazz, dream pop, and soundtrack work.
Psicogramma Key can produce some wonderful sounds, and given the range of choices included in the control scheme, there are quite a few ways to mod the output to get your desired results.
NuSofting has made the download process a breeze, as you can download the zips for the macOS (37.5 MB) and Windows (17.6 MB) versions in two clicks straight from the product page.
NuSofting released the Psicogramma MFX plugin at the same time as Psicogramma Key.
The dev priced Psicogramma MFX at €15, although it’s currently on sale for €9.
While all the MFX features are integrated into the Key synth, producers who want to use the multi-effects plugin on other sources might be interested in purchasing the MFX plugin.
