When it comes to vintage synth emulations, Full Bucket Music has given us some absolute gems. Their latest release, Fury-68, is a reimagining of Korg’s 80s classic.
We’ve had the Six-Traq (Sequential Circuits Six Trak), Paralogy (Crumar Trilogy/Stratus), and the slightly bonkers but brilliant Broken Mini (Minimoog).
And let’s not forget the Fury-800, which emulates the wonderfully lo-fi Korg Poly-800.
Now, Björn (Full Bucket Music) is giving us the sound of a vintage Korg for free.
The Korg in question is the 1982 Poly-61. OK, so I might be slightly optimistic in calling it a classic in the title. As a supposed step up from the Polysix, it didn’t set the stage on fire.
One reason it didn’t set the stage on fire is that the programming is about as convoluted as the DX7, but Korg’s offering never garnered a cult following like Yamaha’s DX7.
The consensus view on the Poly-61 is that it’s a good synth, not a great synth. Having said that, people who persisted with the Poly-61 were able to get some pretty great sounds from it!
Full Bucket Music’s Fury-68 is available in AU, VST2, VST3, AAX, and CLAP formats for macOS and Windows.
Fury-68 is pretty faithful to the original hardware, but it comes with a few interesting enhancements.
The Fury-68 offers increased polyphony (up to 64 voices versus 6-voice polyphony from the original) and a new unison mode.
You have the same dual DCO structure as the original, but there are a couple of adaptations in the VCF section. Fury-68 allows you to add negative values to the EG1 INT parameter (cutoff frequency modulation) for inverted modulation.
You can also switch the filter type from a 2-pole to a 4-pole lowpass.
Full Bucket Music also added a classic effects section with Chorus, Phaser, and Ensemble.
There’s no arpeggiator, which should upset almost no one.
As soon as you load Fury-68, you get the Fat Brass sound, and I really like it. Fury-68 is a good reminder that the Poly-61 has something to offer, and thanks to its less-than-stellar reputation, you can pick one up relatively cheap these days.
Of course, the Full Bucket treatment makes the experience even better. I had no issues at all with macOS 14.5 and Logic Pro X 11.0.5.
