XRL Records has released MH Lifter, a freeware plugin designed to enhance mid and high frequencies in your mix. It’s currently available for Windows users in VST2 and VST3 formats, with an AU version for macOS reportedly in the works.
MH Lifter is a follow-up to the developer’s earlier freebie, SVE—a vocal enhancer that added stereo width, delay, reverb, and gain shaping. While SVE wasn’t groundbreaking, it was a handy tool with a straightforward interface, so I have a fair amount of trust in what XRL Records puts out.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to test MH Lifter myself since it’s not yet compatible with macOS. Still, if you’re on Windows, it looks like it could be worth checking out.
From what I can tell based on the official info and screenshots, MH Lifter is a two-knob plugin. It has one control for mids and one for highs. You also get a bypass button in the upper-right corner of the GUI, and that’s it.
There’s no detailed technical breakdown on the XRL Records website, but I’m guessing that MH Lifter features a blend of EQ, multi-band compression, and subtle saturation. If that’s the case, the two controls probably act as macro knobs for these effects, applied to the mid and high frequencies.
The idea seems to be boosting clarity and presence without harshness—sort of a “make-it-pop” tool for vocals, synths, drums, or even the whole mix. Again, this is all speculation based on the available information.
The plugin’s interface is minimal and clean, but it doesn’t come with any metering, presets, or deep tweakability. That’s not necessarily a downside, and sometimes simplicity is the whole point.
I’m a fan of plugins that help you work fast and stay focused on your creative flow, and MH Lifter seems to fit that mold nicely, at least on paper.
If you’re on Windows and tried MH Lifter in your DAW, definitely let me know what you think in the comments—I’d love to hear how it performs in real-world use.
MH Lifter is available as a free download for Windows (64-bit) in VST2 and VST3 formats. An AU version for macOS is planned, but no release date has been provided.
You’ll need to complete a checkout process on the developer’s website to download the plugin, which requires a valid email address. However, it appears that online activation is not required.
