IK Multimedia kicked off June with another AmpliTube 5 CS monthly freebie, this time giving away the Dr. Z Z Wreck Head and Cab, as well as the ProCo Rat and Fulltone OCD stompboxes.
All of the above freebies are emulations of classic guitar gear releases for the free AmpliTube 5 CS guitar and bass station.
IK Multimedia gave the June giveaway the rather loose theme of Summer Drive, although the gear is a bit more of an odds and ends collection than what they normally present.
Not that I’m complaining, as all the June freebies can indeed all get down and dirty when the gig calls for it.
Let’s start with the two dirt pedals, as they are definitely the most well-known and classic pieces of gear in the June collection.
IK Multimedia’s version of the ProCo Rat is called the ProDrive, and it has the same simple three-knob control scheme as the original pedal.
The Rat debuted back in ‘79, and its biting, aggressive tone became a staple for rock, metal, and punk.
The stomp can be used to provide a clean boost, overdrive, or growling distortion. It can push both lead and rhythm tones like a truck, with its rhythm tones being particularly iconic.
The ProDrive is “based on” the ProCo Rat, while the other freebies for June are instead officially certified emulations.
The second free pedal is the Fulltone OCD overdrive. Fulltone launched the OCD in 2004, and the success of the pedal helped establish the name of the company throughout the industry.
Despite being born a Zoomer, the OCD has a warm, vintage sound. The pedal is loved by many players for its ability to replicate the sound and response of an amp, with many comparing it to a Marshall in a box.
Last but not least for this month’s giveaway is the Dr. Z Z Wreck head and matching 2×12 cab.
The Z Wreck was a collaboration between country star Brad Paisley and amp boffins Dr. Z and Ken Fischer.
The amp was designed to provide exceptional touch response and has a cutting tone with a lot of clarity.
The Z Wreck is controlled through a no-frills four-pot front panel, and I think it’s safe to say it can get some pretty rockin’ tones when pushed hard.
As ever, IK Multimedia has attempted to restrict the June freebies to new AmpliTube signups during that month.
However, BPB readers provided a workaround to score the freebies as an existing user (thanks again, folks). BPB readers report that it worked with the May 2025 giveaway.
To get the free gear as an existing user, open the IK Multimedia Product Manager, go to AmpliTube 5 CS, and unauthorize it, then re-authorize it. Then hit ‘refresh your purchases’.
This workaround only works if your device is the only one that has AmpliTube 5 CS authorized on it. If you have a dead device with an old authorization on it, the workaround doesn’t work, unfortunately.
