Valhalla DSP released Supermassive in 2020, and it wasn’t long before people were calling it one of the best freeware audio plugins ever. Supermassive has now been updated to 5.0.0, adding a new Sirius mode.
Five years later, the love for Supermassive hasn’t diminished; in fact, it’s probably grown, thanks to continued support from the developer.
While some freebies have their day in the sun before fading away, or receive just enough support to stay active, Supermassive has gone from strength to strength, thanks to continued updates adding new modes, and that’s a real credit to Valhalla DSP.
This latest update brings Supermassive to version 5.0.0 and introduces the new Sirius mode.
Supermassive has a well-deserved reputation for creating wild, unusual, or even untamed spaces, and that’s why so many people love it.
While Supermassive might never be the plugin you reach for when you want a more natural or standard reverb/delay, the new Sirius mode might bring this otherworldly plugin closer to workhorse status.
The wokhorse status comes from the fact that Sirius mode can deliver short or long reverbs with more clarity and realism than you might expect, thanks, in part, to more powerful Low Cut and High Cut filters.
Even with more standard echoes than other modes, Sirius mode is still capable of venturing into more ethereal spaces.
Valhalla DSP designed Sirius mode with the intention of adding it to Valhalla FutureVerb, but after testing, the Sirius algorithm became a new update for Supermassive, following the likes of Pleiades mode.
The update to version 5.0.0 also brings a few functional upgrades, including previous and next arrows to quickly scroll through the 22 available modes.
