Dumumub offers Orbit Granular Synth and other freebies for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Dumumub has released three plugins, including Orbit Granular Synth, and you can download them for free from the developer’s website now.
The free plugins are:
- Orbit – a gravity-based granular synth, available in AU, VST3, CLAP, and standalone formats for macOS, Windows, and Linux
- Dumumub – 0000003 – a drawable wavetable synth, available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS
- Dumumub – 0000004 – a frequency manipulation tool, available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS
I had a few issues with these plugins, and unfortunately, Orbit is the only one I have running so far.
Orbit comes with an installer, while the other two require the manual drag-and-drop installation. However, none of the expected things happened after placing them in the correct locations (both Component and VST3 files).
I’m on macOS Tahoe 26.2 with Logic Pro 12.0.1, and neither will acknowledge the plugin’s presence. So, let me know if you have better luck with macOS.
As for Orbit, it installed and launched without issue.
Orbit is a gravity-based granular synth built around emitters and masses. You can add multiples of each, while controlling the direction of the initial emissions and the size of the masses.
You can see the sound travels, and how it’s sucked into the orbit of any nearby mass.
You can create some very interesting and complex movements before adjusting ADSR settings, Frequency, and Grain Size.
I’ve had some nice results so far, particularly with a larger grain size. Smaller grain sizes tend to sound less musical but can be ideal when focusing on texture.
I’ve tried a bunch of different samples/audio, and I found that the output is very low, even with the gain slider maxed out. I haven’t noticed any mention of that issue anywhere, so let me know if you find the same.
When downloading plugins, you’ll be asked if you’d like to submit your email address to receive information on new releases. If you don’t want to do so, you can click the No Thanks button.
Adding a No Thanks button shows that the developer values feedback, and that’s great.
So, thanks to Dumumub for the plugins. Besides any installation issues, my biggest area for feedback, so far, would be the color-scheme across the website and plugin interfaces.
It’s not that any design elements look particularly bad, but everything is a bit more difficult to see than it needs to be.
