Developer Urban Kits has released Plural, which is a free pitch-shifting sequencer plugin for macOS and Windows.

Urban Kits is known to provide tools and sounds that help musicians create music from the ground up.

What I mean is that Urban Kits offers products with no barriers to entry; they are free, easy to use, and typically very well-suited to bedroom producers and beatmakers.

In late 2025, Urban Kits released Bedroom Guitar, a free sampled nylon guitar plugin that works well for pop, lo-fi, hip-hop, ambient music, and more.

The developer’s latest release is Plural, a free pitch-shifting sequencer, available in AU and VST2 formats for macOS (10.13 or later) and Windows (10 or later).

Plural fits the standard Urban Kits formula of being user-friendly and immediately impactful.

The plugin features a sequencer with up to sixteen steps that allows you to shift the pitch up or down an octave per step.

The straightforward interface only has a few controls you need to worry about.

Once you set the number of steps in your sequence, you can also adjust the playback speed. You can slow it right down to quarter speed or increase it up to four times the original speed.

Higher speeds are generally great for wilder pitch effects, used in very short bursts. But, depending on the loop you’re using, you can sometimes maintain enough harmonic and melodic qualities to use increased playback speeds for a prolonged period.

If you are changing the speed, the slower speeds are ideal for that lo-fi, chill-out feel, and darker ambient music.

You also have Smooth, Mix, and Master controls.

The Smooth control shapes the transition from the natural pitch to the new pitch. It can be fairly angular and glitchy or have a much more gliding feel; there’s merit in both styles, depending on the desired feel.

Shifting the pitch an octave in either direction might seem like quite a leap, but because you don’t have any odd intervals, you aren’t creating much dissonance.

Instead, you’re just adding movement and texture, and for beatmakers who make countless beats every week, it could be a handy tool to change up standard loops and set the mood without much effort.
