Jeesonic has updated EQ Pro, its free 24-band dynamic equalizer plugin for macOS and Windows, to version 1.2.2.
I rarely cover free plugin updates in the news section because we get free updates every day. But I felt like sharing this one because EQ Pro is definitely one of the best free EQ plugins right now.
It only appeared recently, but the developer is clearly working on it, and version 1.2 makes the plugin feel a lot more polished. The interface now looks a lot slicker, and together with the new features, EQ Pro gets even closer to rivaling professional paid EQs.
I wrote earlier this year that you do not really need to buy a paid EQ anymore, and that feels even more true with updates like this. Between ZL Equalizer 2, TDR Nova, and Jeesonic EQ Pro, there are now several amazing free EQ plugins that cover most of what many producers need from an equalizer.
We also covered EQ Pro when it first launched, and it was already impressive then. It is a transparent, surgical EQ with up to 24 freely placed bands, an interactive curve, a real-time spectrum analyzer, per-band dynamics, Mid/Side and Left/Right processing, and selectable phase behavior.
Version 1.2 adds Spectrum Landmarks, which highlight frequencies that keep standing out over time rather than momentary peaks. You can hover or click a landmark to see its frequency and note, audition the spot, or double-click to place a band there.
The update also adds a preset browser, A/B comparison, analyzer tilt and decay controls, a piano keyboard along the frequency axis (nice!), hover help, and a new Natural Phase mode. The automatic dynamic bands now behave more musically, shelves respond to Q more smoothly, and the top end should stay cleaner near the upper frequency range.
The interface was also reworked with a more hardware-style layout, better meters, individual colored response lines for every band, and stepless VST3 scaling from 75 to 200 percent. Version 1.2.2 also fixes value-dragging in the band panel and adds version numbers to download filenames.
EQ Pro is available for macOS in VST3 and AU formats, and Windows in VST3 format. It is free to download from the Jeesonic website.
