Sample Dicer is a FREE four-layer one-shot sampler for macOS and Windows

Ilya Orange has released Sample Dicer, a free four-layer one-shot sampler for macOS and Windows.

Sample Dicer basically turns raw audio into playable variations, or at least that’s the way I understood it. Instead of loading one sample and triggering it the same way every time, you can stack up to four layers and let the plugin create related versions through randomization and per-trigger movement.

Each layer has its own waveform display, volume, pitch, start, shift, and fade controls. You can drag sounds into the four slots, shape them individually, and then use the Dice function to randomize samples and parameters together or separately.

The useful part is that you can lock the layers you want to keep. So, if one part of the sound is working but the rest needs more variation, you do not have to roll the whole instrument again. There is also a Back function for recalling the previously generated combination.

With all that said, I think Sample Dicer is aimed at more than just basic drum triggering. The developer himself lists game audio, film, sound design, and live performance as some of the possible use cases. I had a lot of fun building layers for cinematic loops and will definitely explore that area more.

But you definitely have loads of options with this one. It can work for layered impacts, creature sounds, glitches, fills, transitions, and interface noises; all of these sounds benefit from small variations, especially when you do not want the same one-shot repeating over and over again.

For keeping repetitions alive, Sample Dicer includes per-trigger evolution, Round Robin playback, Burst repeat, and chromatic key tracking. There are also twenty color themes, scalable interface presets, and an optional Glitch Mode that changes both the sound and visuals.

Sample Dicer is free for independent musicians, bedroom producers, freelancers, indie developers, and small studios, including commercial work, as long as the listed thresholds are not exceeded.

The combined annual company revenue must stay below $1 million, and each project’s production and development budget must stay below $250,000. If either threshold is reached, a paid commercial license is required.

The software is available through GitHub Releases and Gumroad. There is no registration or launcher, and the download is around 5 MB.

Sample Dicer runs in AU, VST3, and standalone formats on macOS, with Apple Silicon and Intel support. On Windows 10/11, it is available as a 64-bit VST3 plugin. The listed macOS requirement is macOS 26.0 or later.
