Orchestral Percussion – Overview

Orchestral Percussion is a realistic percussion sound library for Miroslav Philharmonik 2 and SampleTank 4 Custom Shop (freeware). The latter is completely free when you sign up for an IK Multimedia user account.

IK Multimedia sampled a variety of percussive instruments for the Orchestral Percussion library. The list includes timpani, an orchestral bass drum, symphonic chau gongs, piatti cymbals, three different classical snare drums, sleighbells, tambourines, triangles, castanets, and more.

The instruments were performed by Greg Ellis, a master percussionist known for his work on countless Hollywood blockbuster films.

Orchestral Percussion features several timpani drums with gentle stereo panning and numerous articulations (soft mallet, hard mallet, rolls, crescendos, etc.). The timpani was recorded at a top Hollywood studio using Neumann microphones placed at mid-front and overhead positions.

All instruments are sampled with multiple velocity layers and round-robin variations to ensure natural-sounding playback. You can quickly sequence the percussion in your DAW to achieve authentic rolls and crescendos without the “machine gun effect.”

In addition to the sample content, Orchestral Percussion includes over 100 MIDI patterns and over 400 audio loops covering a variety of advanced dynamic performances that are difficult to perform or sequence via MIDI. You can drag and drop these files into your DAW for easy access and additional editing.

Orchestral Percussion is fully compatible with Miroslav Philharmonik 2 and SampleTank Custom Shop. You can download the SampleTank Custom Shop for free via IK Multimedia.

The library samples 48 instruments with 1,822 individual samples, 102 MIDI patterns, 411 audio loops, and 3 GB of audio content.

Orchestral Percussion – Who is it for?

For any type of cinematic soundtrack or movie trailer, you obviously need epic-sounding orchestral percussion. That’s where a library like this one is a must-have (along with some quality sound effects).

However, IK Multimedia Orchestral Percussion is also useful for modern EDM tunes, pop music, hip-hop, and more.

The library covers a wide range of percussion instruments, from orchestral timpani (ideal for dramatic movie trailers and soundtracks) to snares, cymbals, bells, and other percussive sounds that will perfectly fit almost any music style.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Download the IK Multimedia Product Manager;

2) Launch the Product Manager and log in (or sign up);

3) Click the red Register Product button and enter your activation code;

4) Install SampleTank 4 Custom Shop;

5) Install Orchestral Percussion (it’s in the Sounds tab);

6. Run the Custom Shop application:

Mac-find it in the Applications folder;

PC- find it on your Windows Start Menu;

7. Once the Custom Shop application opens, log in with your usual IK username and password. Select SAMPLETANK from the 3 options;

8. Click on your name at the top right of the window, and on the pull-down menu select ‘Restore My Purchases’;

9. Close Custom Shop and start up your SampleTank;

10. In SampleTank, look at the left-hand column labeled ‘Library’ and you will see Orchestral Percussion in the list of libraries;

11. Click on the icon and the list of available instruments will show in the INSTRUMENTS column. Double click on any of them to play that instrument;

12. Enjoy! (Even if you are using Miroslav Philharmonik, please follow the above instructions for SampleTank because they both share the same instruments libraries)

    i happen to own this library, alls i can say is that sometimes you need some kind of reference point to where you ground your production, and this is a decent reference point to listen to and make decisions…so yes i urge peepz to take advantage of this freeby, mainly as reference but still very useful.

      I thank bedroomproducers blog getting this library fro free. And I’m glad that I didn’t pay anything.

      The timpanies are out of tune and not really played well. The snare rolls sounds like played from a beginner.

    It’s very important to point that all IK libraries expire in two years. So, you better download it and back it up. If you don’t do it, it will expire and you can no longer download it without paying IK 22 bucks to renew the license for two more years.

      I would say they expire in 180 days after purchase, not in two years. I’ve never seen a longer than 180 days period in my account.

    Truly an Epic deal my brother! Wow!

    We’re not competing with the heavy weights in the industry with their extremely expensive orchestral libraries for each of the individual sessions but having a percussion library like this one for free is ridiculous.

    Without a good percussion library like this one we can’t even start learning how to make nice sounding scores.
    Many newcomers to will benefit from this immensely.

    In my case it failed while installing Custom Shop without explanation. I had bad feeling about installing all this bloatware. Product manager and two products just for one library (CS and Sampletank), that’s dumb. Also expires in 180 days? WTF. I hate product managers so much. Waves is horrible, Slate didn’t even had an uninstaller and IK is no better. I used to put dll in a folder and it worked. Account deleted.
