Planet of the Cubs is a lite version of Safari Pedals Planet of the Amps vintage guitar amp sim pack and it is free for a very limited time. At the time of publishing this article, the offer is set to expire in 17 hours.
Planet of the Cubs aims to provide authentic amp-style dynamics without the full amp simulation.
The pack contains two plugins offering amp-style FX inspired by vintage hardware units.

You can download the pack for free now, but it will return to the usual price of $49 in less than 24 hours. Time really is of the essence with this deal!
Safari Pedals is the developer behind plugins like Fox Echo and Cobra Fuzz. This time, they’re back with the suitably named Twin Panda and Silver Llama.
Twin Panda brings the character of the iconic Fender Twin amp through carefully crafted spring reverb and tremolo effects.
The user-friendly plugin has just three controls: Reverb (amount), Speed, and Intensity (tremolo controls). The temptation with a nice spring reverb is to absolutely drench the sound, and that’s often the way to go if you don’t overplay.

Twin Panda does very well, and the tremolo is an ideal companion for those long shimmering notes. Of course, you can use the spring reverb more sparingly and let the tremolo do the heavy lifting, whether you want to exaggerate the movement or just change the attack slightly.
Silver Llama also features a spring reverb effect, this time partnered with a slap delay.
I’m no guitar amp aficionado, but I guess this plugin comes from a vintage Silvertone amp; feel free to share the model in the comments or tell me I’m wrong about Silvertone!

Silver Llama sounds great, too. Both plugins have auto gain, blend, and bypass functions.
I prefer Twin Panda so far; maybe it’s partly nostalgia, as I’ve more experience with the Fender Twin, but both plugins are lovely.
What I like most about them is that you don’t need to be a guitarist to put them to use. As a keyboardist, I know how well electric piano and organ sounds combine with vintage guitar amp FX.
I also remember borrowing amps because buying an expensive vintage guitar amp as a keyboardist and broke student wasn’t realistic. So, getting some of that vintage amp character for free sounds like a good deal to me.
The offer ends very soon, so act fast!
Planet of the Cubs is available in 64-bit AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.15 and higher) and Windows (8 and higher).
