Audio Plugin Guy is giving away the dbx® 160 ($149 value) compressor plugin as a free download for a limited time only. Subscribe now and receive your free copy of the dbx® 160 Compressor on November 17th.
The original dbx® 160 hardware unit is widely considered one of the best drum compressors ever due to its clean sound and low harmonic distortion. It was a trendy piece of gear in recording studios in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

Developed in collaboration with dbx® engineers, the plugin also includes a mid-side matrix, a mix knob, a noise control, and a stereo component.
Taking a closer look at the user interface, dbx® 160 features separate threshold, output gain, and compression controls for the left and right stereo channels. The advanced controls panel hosts the input gain and mix knobs for both channels, a noise control, and the mode selector. The plugin can operate in stereo, dual-channel, and mid-side modes.
dbx® 160 also features a sidechain input. The sidechain signal can be filtered using the built-in high pass filter module (per channel).
Much like every other Waves plugin, the dbx® 160 also features a preset manager, A/B testing functionality, and undo/redo buttons. The gain monitor can be set to mono, stereo, or single-channel modes.
dbx® 160 is priced at $149 normally, but you can get it for free via Audio Plugin Guy’s website for a limited time only.
To claim your free copy of the dbx® 160 plugin, submit your email address on Audio Plugin Guy’s website before November 17th. Be sure to tick the “I want a Waves dbx® 160 Compressor / Limiter” box when signing up. The mailing list subscription is optional.
Everyone who signs up will receive their dbx® 160 serial key on November 17th. You will also need to sign up for a Waves Audio user account to register your software. Also, be sure to install the Waves Central license manager software for plugin activation purposes.
On a related note, the Waves IR-L convolution reverb plugin is also free at the moment. Some users are having trouble receiving their licenses in that deal, though.
Also worth noting is that Waves Audio is currently running a Black Friday Early Bird sale. Purchase multiple plugins to get up to 40% OFF per plugin.
dbx® 160 is available with all VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin hosts on Windows and macOS. Both 32-bit and 64-bit digital audio workstations are supported.
UPDATE: This deal has expired.

onIs it possible to use the plugin without the Waves Licence Manager software?
I think about using VMware or Virtualbox to register/licening process and then copying the actual plugin to my clean system.

onThe was an app that let you extract *.DLLs from the installer, but likely doesn’t work anymore. KVR would know the name.
arkmabat
onThere’s this, too. Free.
