Universal Audio is giving away the lovely Pure Plate Reverb plugin until December 24, 2024.
This holiday season freebie is the developer’s way of saying thank you to customers, new and old.
You can download Pure Plate for free until Christmas Eve (December 24, 2024), when it will return to its regular price.
The regular price is actually a little irregular; you’ll see it listed anywhere from $29 to $149 throughout the year. Whatever the price, it’s a fantastic plugin and a great addition to anyone’s toolkit.
If you already own Pure Plate, like I do, you’ll receive a special 10% discount code to ensure you don’t feel left out. Although it’s harder to get excited about a 10% discount than it is a free plugin, what can you do?
It’s been a busy week or two for reverb plugins; Denise Audio released Perfect Room 2 with an introductory discount, and we checked out the free Subtle Spaces from Fine Classic Plugins.
Universal Audio previously took on one of the most iconic plate reverbs ever made with the EMT 140 Classic Plate Reverberator plugin, which combines three different EMT 140 units.
Pure Plate takes the same painstakingly detailed modeling process and packages it in a simple, easy-to-use plugin.
With only a handful of controls, it’s easy to get fast results with Pure Plate.
You can reduce low-frequency content using the Low Cut Filter; when set to 90 or 180, a 12 dB per octave high pass filter is applied to the reverb signal.
The Predelay ranges from 0 to 250 ms.
The Reverb Time meter shows the reverb duration, which you can adjust between 0.5 and 5.5 seconds in increments of 0.1 seconds.
You also get some tone controls that allow you to boost or attenuate the Bass or Treble by +/-12 dB.
You can shape the reverb further with the Balance control, which balances the level between the left and right channels.
The Mix control and Wet Solo switch determine how much of the wet signal the plugin outputs.
There’s a certain lushness that you only get from a plate reverb, and Pure Plate does it right. It’s also tempting to hide behind that lushness, but the right amount on the right source is epic.
Pure Plate features presets from Patrick Carney (The Black Keys), Chuck Zwicky (Prince, The Time), and more.
It’s a Christmas treat!

onJust a heads up. A 380mb installer (UA Connect) required to download and authorise. No idea if you need to keep this portal on your device and keep an internet connection to run the software. These companies need to understand that we dont want/need 300mb+ portals/installers/product managers (lol), spyware for small plugins that are only a few MBs. I dont doubt this will be a great plugin as UAD have a great track record; but at nearly half a GB just to install a reverb plugin, it’s a no thanks from me.

onYou don’t need UA Connect to run the plugin but you do need it to install updates or to add/install other plugins. So getting rid of it afterwards isn’t ideal.
It’s a real pain. I don’t know why this can’t all be handled from our user account on the UA website. Then we might also have a plugin installer to archive for future use. As is, there’s no way to backup plugin installers.
They really haven’t given the user experience much thought. After having their plugins tied to hardware for years, getting them native is great…. but the experience is horrible so I tend to just collect them and never use them.

onNo you do not need to keep UA Connect installed, you just need it to redeem, install or update your plugins. I always uninstall UA Connect afterwards.
However, be aware that as always with UA you need iLok to activate your plugins.
This is a great freebie!

onI can’t believe this is free.
It’s my favorite (and best sounding imo) plate reverb plugin ever.

onCurious. What’s the big deal with iLok? Most of my plug-ins use it. I’m not bothered by needing to get a free iLok account, and I use a USB iLok stick. No big deal.

onFor me it’s just another license manager that doesn’t really need to exist. I want to write music, not bother with license managers of which there are practically hundreds of at this point. I have run into issues with the pc app where licenses would suddenly not work, some needed to be connected to the internet to function which is a no go for me. I’ve reached activation limits which feels quite archaic to me. All in all, it’s a hurdle I’d rather not deal with. I don’t agree with the companies ZDT practices and pricing and all in all I find ilok to be a layer of DRM that is not needed. I’ve largely just ditched all my ilok stuff and stick with companies that use much simple licensing management like ValhallaDSP that uses a simple key file I can store anywhere. Thanks to this website I’ve had no trouble replacing much of my ilok plugins with free alternatives. It’s much simpler for me to just copy and paste a plugin folder than it is to login into endless license managers.
It may be worth mentioning that many developers do not like dealing with ilok themselves. One of those happens to be soundtoys who have since ditched ilok as a requirement. In support emails they’ve expressed their distaste for the product. In some cases the use of ilok can translate to lost sales as there is a portion of users who seek to avoid any DRM they find to be intrusive.

oniLok has its pros and cons. The best part is we’re all free to choose what works best for us. If you’re like me, you realize there are some plugins that require iLok that I couldn’t live without, so I deal. Then there are other people who are strictly against iLok, so they’re free to move along to other plugins which don’t require it. Freedom is a beautiful thing! :)

onAmen!

onIf you don’t intend to use LUNA, you can rename the UA Connect exe to something else and it will not open when you load any UA plugin. LUNA has to open UA Connect to work.

onSounds great. Overall I have to say I am impressed with this company’s plugins. This is my fifth freebie from them and they are all great.

onSurprisingly very low CPU consumption for UAD!

onGreat freebie. I’ve grabbed mine, in my UAD account. It’ll be an option for me. I’m using my Soundtoys Super Plate now. Love the EMT 140 setting there.
Great info, thanks.

onWhat a ridiculous installer. It says I have updates for all my plugins and then after I update it changes nothing and just says there’s a new update still available. Also, when I download the new plugin it doesn’t show up anywhere and just keeps showing the download button.Amazing how these big companies can’t seem to do anything right or they just don’t care, hard to tell which.

onNot sure what your issues might be….
My 4 updates all update thru UA Connect, and everything shows up in my DAW
jay dema
onFinally got it working, turns out i needed to type in a terminal command from the UAD website that initiated the cloud.
Isaac
onWhy can’t i get access to it? I follow the procedure but it tells me activation failure. What am I doing wrong?
Robin
onWas about to skip. I’ve got enough reverbs, but I forgot I already have UA connect for the free LA2A so this was an easy grab. Thanks for the tip!
PureFire
onThanks James, BPB & UA, an awesome reverb, much appreciated 🙂🙏
James
onF THIS!!!
Why they make is so painfully difficult to install and keep licence and updates?
I PASS, another stupid plugin, very old, built for an old computer.
